00:00:03.165 --> 00:00:14.791 Hey ladies, welcome to the Single Moms United podcast, where it's not about how you arrived at the title the single mom title but it's what you do with it.
00:00:14.791 --> 00:00:20.032 It doesn't matter if you acquired it by choice or by divorce.
00:00:20.032 --> 00:00:22.969 You are a single mom.
00:00:22.969 --> 00:00:25.003 Wear it well.
00:00:25.003 --> 00:00:26.346 Wear it well.
00:00:26.346 --> 00:00:29.993 Don't let the world criticize you for being a single mom.
00:00:29.993 --> 00:00:31.262 It happens.
00:00:31.262 --> 00:00:33.127 The kids are here Now.
00:00:33.127 --> 00:00:36.720 You have to embrace it and move on Now.
00:00:36.720 --> 00:00:39.591 If this is your first time visiting, welcome.
00:00:39.591 --> 00:00:44.023 If you are a repeat listener, thank you for your loyalty.
00:00:44.023 --> 00:00:46.024 If you are a repeat listener, thank you for your loyalty.
00:00:46.045 --> 00:00:52.609 Now I will put out in advance that this episode will be a little longer than normal.
00:00:52.609 --> 00:00:55.972 Again, I like to switch things up every now and then.
00:00:55.972 --> 00:01:06.685 You know, last week I inserted a poem and I think that was all but five minutes or less, and so this week I'm going to make up for that.
00:01:06.685 --> 00:01:17.935 We are back on the letter I and extracting word choices from the letter I that would and could impact parenting skills.
00:01:17.935 --> 00:01:24.668 Now, again, this is not a one size fits all, but it's all about critical thinking.
00:01:24.668 --> 00:01:30.462 And is this something I can apply to my own parenting skills?
00:01:30.462 --> 00:01:39.426 I wish I had more guidance when I was raising my children, you know I was doing a lot of feeling around in the dark.
00:01:39.426 --> 00:01:49.694 Sometimes I would find the nut and sometimes I wouldn't right, but I really wish I would have just had more guidance when it came to certain things.
00:01:49.694 --> 00:01:52.519 And that's what this podcast is all about.
00:01:52.519 --> 00:01:58.492 It's about critical thinking and saying, yeah, that makes sense.
00:01:58.492 --> 00:01:59.254 Let me see.
00:01:59.254 --> 00:02:18.801 Let me try to introduce that into my own parenting skills, because everybody is different, every culture is different, but you may be able to extract some content from this episode or episodes that I provide to you.
00:02:19.663 --> 00:02:22.466 All right, so we're going to get right down to the nitty gritty for today.
00:02:22.466 --> 00:02:24.747 So we're going to get right down to the nitty gritty for today.
00:02:24.747 --> 00:02:27.330 We're going to be talking about impact.
00:02:27.330 --> 00:02:31.895 There is a definition out there related to impact.
00:02:31.895 --> 00:02:33.497 I'm not going to go into it.
00:02:33.497 --> 00:02:49.643 I'm really going to focus on some topics I had saw on social media a while ago about what schools should be teaching our children, some basic things, life skills that schools should be teaching.
00:02:50.044 --> 00:02:51.105 Well, guess what?
00:02:51.105 --> 00:02:52.688 I disagree.
00:02:52.688 --> 00:02:54.853 Why do I disagree with that?
00:02:54.853 --> 00:03:15.420 When your children are in school, as well as my kids and even you and me, when we were in school, our teachers changed every year and then as you got into middle school, junior high, then you had multiple teachers because you had to change classes depending on what subject they were teaching.
00:03:15.420 --> 00:03:25.110 You'd have three or four different teachers after you go through junior high and high school, and that's okay and how they have everything set up.
00:03:25.110 --> 00:03:32.193 But the issue is, everybody has their own style, they have their own technique and guess what?
00:03:32.193 --> 00:03:43.129 Your child is only going to be with them for that school year, because next year it's going to be another set of teachers and then another set of teachers until they graduate.
00:03:43.129 --> 00:03:45.394 You don't have that consistency.
00:03:45.394 --> 00:03:55.669 They're there to just deliver the curriculum as they have been given to them as far as the subject that they want to specialize in.
00:03:55.669 --> 00:04:00.893 Again, it's only for a moment that your child will be with this teacher.
00:04:00.893 --> 00:04:07.050 They may develop a relationship with them, but next year it's on to a new set.
00:04:07.381 --> 00:04:21.790 When I read this document about what the schools should be teaching our kids, I was like no, no, we are not going to put all of this on the school moms.
00:04:21.790 --> 00:04:23.875 We're just not going to do that.
00:04:23.875 --> 00:04:28.083 All of this on the school moms, we're just not going to do that.
00:04:28.083 --> 00:04:29.064 Why is that important?
00:04:29.064 --> 00:04:31.951 Because your kids are going to be with you lifelong until one of you die.
00:04:31.951 --> 00:04:34.341 So, anyway, we're talking about impact.
00:04:34.762 --> 00:04:47.237 As I went through this list of what the schools or organizations should be teaching our children, this is a mom's responsibility.
00:04:47.237 --> 00:05:05.524 Today I'm going to go through each one of these and share with you how they had them listed out in social media, kind of talk a little bit to them and also give you some ideas on how to pursue some of these things.
00:05:05.524 --> 00:05:06.728 We don't get a lot of money.
00:05:06.728 --> 00:05:08.180 At least I didn't right.
00:05:08.180 --> 00:05:13.951 One of the biggest issues in raising kids on your own is finances.
00:05:13.951 --> 00:05:16.682 They always need something.
00:05:16.682 --> 00:05:27.375 These responsibilities do not I repeat, do not fall on the schools or other organizations.
00:05:27.375 --> 00:05:51.432 I believe it is our sole responsibility to teach our kids these life skills Because, at the end of the day, we got to release them to the world, moms, and when we release them to the world, we have to make sure they're set up for success, and being successful means they know how to navigate through life.
00:05:51.432 --> 00:06:01.141 So I'm just going to try to quickly go through these and I probably shouldn't have said that because I just extended this episode the document that I saw.
00:06:01.161 --> 00:06:06.088 It says one of the things that the school should be teaching is taxes.
00:06:06.088 --> 00:06:07.649 I disagree, I agree.
00:06:07.649 --> 00:06:09.033 I mean they can.
00:06:09.033 --> 00:06:10.095 They can.
00:06:10.095 --> 00:06:11.197 You should too.
00:06:11.197 --> 00:06:12.319 How about that?
00:06:12.319 --> 00:06:15.184 Because taxes are reality.
00:06:15.184 --> 00:06:30.420 If you buy something and then you're going to get that sales tax and then when they start working, they're going to have taxes taken out of their paychecks and then at the end of the year you got to file for taxes.
00:06:30.420 --> 00:06:40.605 Yeah, the school can teach that, but, mom, I think it should come from you, because this is a part of life Our children shouldn't have to worry about.
00:06:40.605 --> 00:06:45.687 Wait a minute, I worked all these hours and they told me I was getting paid this.
00:06:45.687 --> 00:06:48.139 Who took all this money out of my paycheck?
00:06:48.139 --> 00:06:52.836 They shouldn't be blindsided by that.
00:06:52.836 --> 00:07:05.971 It's up to you, mom, to educate them on what the taxes are and why taxes are deducted from their paycheck or why they pay sales tax when they go and buy stuff.
00:07:05.971 --> 00:07:11.723 And I hear you Well, I don't know, I never was taught that and guess what?
00:07:11.723 --> 00:07:15.250 That's okay, that is absolutely okay.
00:07:15.250 --> 00:07:22.723 But what we cannot do, mom or moms say oh well, let them find out on their own.
00:07:22.723 --> 00:07:27.201 We are in an age where we can look anything up.
00:07:27.201 --> 00:07:32.062 You have tax programs out there that will help educate.
00:07:32.062 --> 00:07:38.213 You have tax programs out there that will help educate you.
00:07:38.213 --> 00:07:47.291 You have YouTube out there where you can look up and just put in explain to me about taxes, sales tax and why we file taxes and how it's deducted from our paycheck.
00:07:47.291 --> 00:08:02.507 You can watch these videos and then I do believe there's comment sections on some of these pages where you could probably ask them questions or go to some of these larger tax organizations.
00:08:02.507 --> 00:08:06.682 There's other information out there that you can read up on.
00:08:07.490 --> 00:08:13.521 One of the things I did I would go to these tax services to do my income tax.
00:08:13.521 --> 00:08:17.720 I was just like as soon as I got my W-2, I was off to the races.
00:08:17.720 --> 00:08:25.298 It's like money that I needed, right, I needed this and I just needed to go off and get my taxes done.
00:08:25.298 --> 00:08:32.157 So I would go to these tax companies and the fees that they charged it was like wait what?
00:08:32.157 --> 00:08:33.599 I mean?
00:08:33.599 --> 00:08:40.460 It was like $200 and that was 30 years ago, so I can imagine what they're charging now.
00:08:40.460 --> 00:08:42.912 But it was a lot of money I was losing.
00:08:42.912 --> 00:08:53.881 I learned how to do the 1040 easy I did because I didn't want to keep losing that type of money for fees on something that I could do myself.
00:08:53.881 --> 00:08:56.033 I mean, I'm not the smartest person.
00:08:56.033 --> 00:08:59.120 I know how to follow directions.
00:08:59.600 --> 00:09:06.139 And here's the good news, mom, with the software that they have out there now and again.
00:09:06.139 --> 00:09:13.644 I don't know how much it costs, but once upon a time I think it was right around $39.95.
00:09:13.644 --> 00:09:17.714 And all you did was plug in everything and it did everything for you.
00:09:17.714 --> 00:09:31.371 Now I had to do paper, but you all have it so much easier where you just plug in your information off of your W-2 and it'll go in and tell you how much you're getting back.
00:09:31.371 --> 00:09:35.863 And yes, there still is a fee, but it's only like 30 bucks.
00:09:35.863 --> 00:09:38.238 Who can't live without 30 bucks?
00:09:38.238 --> 00:09:40.375 Right, and it's secure.
00:09:40.375 --> 00:09:45.676 They also support you if you're audited, and that's a big one.
00:09:45.676 --> 00:09:53.559 If it's just you and your kids, I wouldn't see why you would be audited, because that form is pretty basic.
00:09:53.809 --> 00:09:58.322 Teach your kids about taxes and why they exist.
00:09:58.322 --> 00:10:00.917 That's your responsibility, mom.
00:10:00.917 --> 00:10:03.758 Not to school If they want to teach it, fine.
00:10:03.758 --> 00:10:12.402 But moms, you need to take ownership of that Because, remember, we are more than just moms, we are more than just nurturers, we're educators.
00:10:12.402 --> 00:10:13.570 We are more than just nurturers, we're educators.
00:10:13.570 --> 00:10:15.655 We are educators.
00:10:15.655 --> 00:10:23.256 Remember, I told you the difference between a good mom and a bad mom is all about whether we're teaching our children or not.
00:10:23.256 --> 00:10:28.903 If you're taking the time to teach your child, you're a good mom, you're a good parent.
00:10:28.903 --> 00:10:33.736 If you're not yeah, and I'm saying that in my out loud voice you're not a good parent.
00:10:33.736 --> 00:10:40.868 If you're not again, I'm saying that in my out loud voice you're not a good parent if you're not teaching your child or your children.
00:10:40.868 --> 00:10:42.455 But it's not too late.
00:10:42.455 --> 00:10:46.019 Not too late to turn this thing around, mom.
00:10:46.019 --> 00:10:48.076 All right, let me move on.
00:10:48.076 --> 00:10:51.279 So they said what else schools should be teaching?
00:10:51.279 --> 00:10:53.337 Should be teaching our kids how to cook.
00:10:53.337 --> 00:11:12.216 Well, that shouldn't go on to the school, because each culture is different and of what they like and what they dislike, and I think it's just great to be able to continue that experience of what our ancestors taught us.
00:11:12.238 --> 00:11:14.263 My grandmother, my grandmother, was a great cook.
00:11:14.263 --> 00:11:21.571 She taught my mom and my aunts and they were great cooks, and it wasn't none of that processed food.
00:11:21.571 --> 00:11:24.677 They would pick greens, cook them on the stove.
00:11:24.677 --> 00:11:29.091 And my mom one of my favorite dishes is she used to.
00:11:29.091 --> 00:11:32.437 Every summer she would do fried corn.
00:11:32.437 --> 00:11:35.522 Oh my gosh, was that stuff good.
00:11:35.522 --> 00:11:46.131 And I try to replicate that keyword, try to replicate how my mom used to cook that corn, but still doesn't come out the same.
00:11:46.131 --> 00:11:48.196 It's good, but it's not like hers.
00:11:48.196 --> 00:11:56.556 Certainly miss those days, but you should be teaching your children how to cook, and I hear you, I hear you.
00:11:56.556 --> 00:11:59.643 Well, nobody taught me and that's OK.
00:11:59.643 --> 00:12:19.974 But we have technology, there's TV shows, there's YouTube I can't stress that enough where you can learn how to cook home cooked meals on the stove, nothing microwave, cutting stuff up, cooking green beans.
00:12:20.073 --> 00:12:34.565 My mom had a garden and we had to go out there, or rather I had to go out there and help pick some of those vegetables for her to cook and she would wash it and all of that and it'd be so good.
00:12:34.565 --> 00:12:45.374 Not a lot of pesticides like the big farmers do to preserve the vegetables or the fruit and vegetables she would have her garden.
00:12:45.374 --> 00:12:51.761 So we always had fresh garden vegetables At this age in my life.
00:12:51.761 --> 00:12:54.145 I certainly appreciate that.
00:12:54.145 --> 00:13:07.123 Now, you know wasn't going to McDonald's every other day like I did with my kids, or Wendy's or Burger King, all those fast food restaurants, just to say you know I don't feel like cooking today.
00:13:07.123 --> 00:13:10.333 In my defense, I also was working.
00:13:10.453 --> 00:13:19.921 Still, mom, take the time on your day off to maybe cook a home-cooked meal, because if you are working, like I was working, it is difficult.
00:13:19.921 --> 00:13:32.676 It's a huge challenge to try to do everything on your day off If you can just find one good recipe and go for it and then let your kids help you.
00:13:32.676 --> 00:13:40.912 You know one of the things my daughter always tells me that she learned how to cook some things because she was spending time with my mom.
00:13:40.912 --> 00:13:46.471 She would see her grandma cook all these home-cooked meals, so she learned some things.
00:13:46.471 --> 00:13:50.677 I feel a little slighted because it wasn't me that was teaching her.
00:13:50.677 --> 00:13:56.876 She had the best person to model after, which is my mom Moms.
00:13:56.876 --> 00:13:57.980 I would encourage you.
00:13:57.980 --> 00:14:02.115 This is something schools shouldn't be teaching our kids how to do.
00:14:02.115 --> 00:14:09.514 Next year is going to be a different teacher, a different subject, but they're going to be with you long-term, lifelong.
00:14:09.514 --> 00:14:15.081 This is your opportunity to share with them about cooking.
00:14:15.582 --> 00:14:17.666 Next is insurance.
00:14:17.666 --> 00:14:20.274 Teach your children about insurance.
00:14:20.274 --> 00:14:21.999 It really speaks for itself.
00:14:21.999 --> 00:14:26.577 If you're renting, you have renter's insurance, and if you have a car, you have car insurance.
00:14:26.577 --> 00:14:28.702 What does insurance represent?
00:14:28.702 --> 00:14:31.818 It's there to protect your property period.
00:14:31.818 --> 00:14:39.378 So if something happens, you have insurance to have your property replaced and it's such a good thing.
00:14:39.378 --> 00:14:55.202 And I remember when I once upon a time ago got insurance, the insurance person was going through and sharing with me about, overall, how much did I need as it relates to protecting my property.
00:14:55.202 --> 00:15:00.499 I didn't understand a lot of the language and they were like, well, how much is your property worth?
00:15:00.499 --> 00:15:03.178 That's how much insurance you should get.
00:15:03.178 --> 00:15:07.715 And then they talked about deductibles and I was like, what is a deductible?
00:15:10.422 --> 00:15:13.053 But this is important.
00:15:13.173 --> 00:15:18.235 But the insurance talk can come a little later in life, especially when they move out.
00:15:18.235 --> 00:15:31.475 You can educate them and if you don't have insurance or renter's insurance or car insurance, which is now the law in some states, this is something you will want to look into, moms.
00:15:31.475 --> 00:15:39.440 But but again, this is a conversation you want to have with your child get a little more mature and start to move out on their own.
00:15:39.440 --> 00:15:46.703 But again, everybody's different in the way that they do things and so you might want to introduce it earlier.
00:15:46.703 --> 00:15:48.249 Nothing wrong with that.
00:15:48.249 --> 00:15:58.519 But kids are smart, they are very smart, so they may be able to help you as it relates to insurance and how much you should get and so forth.
00:15:58.519 --> 00:16:04.125 And now look at what you just did You're allowing them to get their feet wet in this process.
00:16:04.125 --> 00:16:07.775 So when they do move out, they're equipped.
00:16:07.775 --> 00:16:30.549 So when they start talking about renter's insurance or car insurance and I would assume for most kids that would probably start with car insurance and what that means and so you can start there and educating them getting their feet wet, let them start to see what you're enduring as it relates to your insurance needs.
00:16:30.549 --> 00:16:38.201 Okay, now you're giving them a head start on life, because this is reality.
00:16:38.201 --> 00:16:47.508 And again, I told you, the best way I learned is to be involved, to be hands-on, and I bet you, many of your children, are probably the exact same way.
00:16:47.508 --> 00:16:50.991 Many of your children are probably the exact same way.
00:16:50.991 --> 00:17:08.873 You can talk until you're blue in the face, but unless you actually get and start touching some things, moving some things, that's the real impact of learning, because now you're hands-on, it makes a difference.
00:17:08.873 --> 00:17:19.358 All right, I don't think I'm gonna be able to finish all of this this week, so we're going to have part two, so I'll just do two more and then I'll finish up next week.
00:17:19.525 --> 00:17:27.487 The other thing you should be teaching your children, and not relying on schools, is basic home repairs.
00:17:27.487 --> 00:17:31.335 Do you have a toolkit, mom, and they got some cute ones out there too.
00:17:31.335 --> 00:17:38.678 Some of them come in pink, and if you don't want to do pink, you can do other colors and make it a little more fun.
00:17:38.678 --> 00:17:39.948 But do you have a hammer?
00:17:39.948 --> 00:17:42.816 Do you have a screwdriver, a wrench?
00:17:42.816 --> 00:17:45.944 Why is this important?
00:17:45.944 --> 00:17:48.951 To teach your child about basic home repairs.
00:17:48.951 --> 00:17:52.140 For me, you don't have to wait.
00:17:52.140 --> 00:17:56.191 You don't have to wait for someone else to come in and do some simple things.
00:17:56.191 --> 00:17:59.922 I recently switched out a door handle.
00:17:59.922 --> 00:18:01.747 I just wanted something different.
00:18:01.747 --> 00:18:03.971 I just have my screwdrivers.
00:18:03.971 --> 00:18:13.215 Phillip turned the back of the box over and I read through it and took the old one out and put the new one in.
00:18:13.215 --> 00:18:27.093 And again, yes, I read the instructions, but I also just paid close attention to how the other one was set up to also guide me to setting up or installing my new door handle.
00:18:27.874 --> 00:18:32.861 And the other thing, ladies, which is beautiful take pictures.
00:18:32.861 --> 00:18:35.810 You know we use our phones for other.
00:18:35.810 --> 00:18:44.656 You know pictures that we take of ourselves, selfies or other people or just whatever's going on in life.
00:18:44.656 --> 00:18:51.730 But you can take pictures of your project that you're trying to work on like oh okay, well, it was in here like this.
00:18:51.730 --> 00:18:54.191 Now, why does it look like this.
00:18:54.191 --> 00:19:11.673 Just something to think about, because I did take a picture of that door handle front and back because, just in case, I had it upside down, which is not uncommon for me, but I could go back and kind of look at the pictures.
00:19:12.134 --> 00:19:18.571 Remember, I'm a visual person and a lot of times they will have pictures on the box.
00:19:18.571 --> 00:19:31.856 And then again, I cannot stress enough there is YouTube, so if you're trying to install something or fix something, look it up and they'll even tell you what type of tool you'll need.
00:19:31.856 --> 00:19:37.913 But I would encourage you to get a toolkit, mom, and I hear you.
00:19:37.913 --> 00:19:43.448 Well, I'm a renter and they have strict policy, blah, blah, et cetera, et cetera.
00:19:43.448 --> 00:19:46.374 Well, remember, you also put a deposit down.
00:19:46.374 --> 00:20:02.953 So if something does break or whatever, and they'll take a part of your deposit to repair whatever's broken, but if you knew how to repair whatever it is, guess what, I get my full deposit back.
00:20:02.953 --> 00:20:11.257 So think about that, think about that, and you just never know when you may need a tool.
00:20:11.845 --> 00:20:15.536 And now, not only do you know, but your children know.
00:20:15.536 --> 00:20:19.050 This is why this does not belong in the schools.
00:20:19.050 --> 00:20:23.326 It belongs in your household, mom, you are the teacher.
00:20:23.326 --> 00:20:29.618 The schools don't need to go back and teach our kids how to do basic home repairs.
00:20:29.618 --> 00:20:32.973 Those teachers don't live in your house, you do?
00:20:32.973 --> 00:20:37.953 Y'all hear me my voice changing because I'm getting passionate about a few things.
00:20:37.953 --> 00:20:43.352 All right, so I'm gonna stop after this one and we'll continue next week.
00:20:43.826 --> 00:20:48.680 You should be teaching, getting your children in position to be taught.
00:20:48.680 --> 00:20:50.111 It's about self-defense.
00:20:50.111 --> 00:20:51.887 Why is that important?
00:20:51.887 --> 00:21:02.067 And even now more than ever, your children should know how to defend themselves.
00:21:02.067 --> 00:21:11.773 You can look up some things online of what's available, so I'm not going to get too deep in the weeds here, but you should be able to make sure they know how to defend themselves.
00:21:11.773 --> 00:21:14.707 We shouldn't wait for the school to teach this.
00:21:15.188 --> 00:21:16.771 And then here's the other thing.
00:21:16.771 --> 00:21:24.694 If we waited on the schools to teach some of these basics of life skills, how do you know what's being taught?
00:21:24.694 --> 00:21:27.287 How do you know what the teachers are telling them?
00:21:27.287 --> 00:21:28.950 How do you verify it?
00:21:28.950 --> 00:21:34.200 And how do you verify they understand what the teacher taught?
00:21:34.200 --> 00:21:38.030 How do you verify you're not in a classroom?
00:21:38.030 --> 00:21:43.575 Yeah, they bring home the paperwork or their books or whatever, and you ask them how school was.
00:21:43.575 --> 00:21:46.385 Oh, yeah, we learned about blah, blah, blah today.
00:21:46.787 --> 00:21:53.538 Okay, how the teacher presented it and how they received it could be two different things.
00:21:53.538 --> 00:21:58.257 Does it really comprehend of what the teacher was saying?
00:21:58.257 --> 00:22:00.953 That's why this belongs in your home.
00:22:00.953 --> 00:22:09.753 This is exactly the reason why we should not put these types of things in the schools, because we don't know what they're teaching.
00:22:09.753 --> 00:22:11.667 We just know by word of mouth.
00:22:11.667 --> 00:22:21.915 But when you are one-on-one with your child, with your children, you can take a pulse and say does that make sense?
00:22:21.915 --> 00:22:25.351 And they can say, yeah, it does, or no, it doesn't.
00:22:25.351 --> 00:22:34.837 Then you got to say, okay, well, if it doesn't, well, let me reintroduce it another way so that you understand it.
00:22:34.837 --> 00:22:42.240 But right now, our kids are not equipped to handle certain situations.
00:22:45.813 --> 00:22:47.457 I flunked in this area.
00:22:47.457 --> 00:22:58.832 I didn't know how to defend myself when I was growing up, so how can I teach my children and I bet many of you are the same way.
00:22:58.832 --> 00:23:01.277 But here's the good news it's okay.
00:23:01.277 --> 00:23:03.627 This is part of your homework, moms.
00:23:03.627 --> 00:23:05.010 Put it down.
00:23:05.010 --> 00:23:07.679 Teach my child about self-defense.
00:23:08.019 --> 00:23:10.509 Self-defense isn't all about guns and bullets.
00:23:10.509 --> 00:23:11.974 I'll say that again, and that's something they will not teach in school.
00:23:11.974 --> 00:23:12.479 Self-defense isn't all about guns and bullets.
00:23:12.479 --> 00:23:15.508 I'll say that again, and that's something they will not teach in school.
00:23:15.508 --> 00:23:21.179 Self-defense is not all about guns and bullets yeah, gun violence.
00:23:21.179 --> 00:23:35.987 To me, that's why gun violence is so prevalent today is because nobody taught our children how and what to do when they're approached and have to defend themselves.
00:23:35.987 --> 00:23:43.098 Again, it's not on the school to take ownership of that, it's your job, mom.
00:23:43.486 --> 00:23:54.958 Now you can work with the school and that's what I would recommend, especially if they have some type of curriculum in place as it relates to self-defense.
00:23:54.958 --> 00:24:07.398 Get a copy of it and ask questions, okay, and maybe there's a partnership that you can develop with the teacher or teachers related to this.
00:24:07.398 --> 00:24:10.535 Now you are literally on one accord.
00:24:10.535 --> 00:24:25.028 You're calibrated on what the school is teaching and what you're teaching to make sure your child understands, because again next year your child's going on to a different grade, to a new teacher.
00:24:25.028 --> 00:24:29.093 But you're going to be always the mom, always.
00:24:29.093 --> 00:24:31.635 That's never going to change.
00:24:32.416 --> 00:24:35.280 All right, ladies, I'm done for today.
00:24:35.280 --> 00:24:40.493 Join me back next week as we continue about impact.
00:24:40.493 --> 00:24:42.176 It'll be impact part two.
00:24:42.176 --> 00:24:52.075 We'll be talking about social etiquette or manners, personal finance and how to manage that, and talking about wants versus needs.
00:24:52.075 --> 00:24:59.256 We're going to talk about stress management, yeah, and conflict resolution.
00:24:59.256 --> 00:25:04.075 Again, these are topics we should be teaching in our households.
